A tape measure is a tool for length measuring. It is used to accurately determine the length of various objects or surfaces. This tool is widely used in various craft, construction, technical and engineering trades. The tape has clearly marked gradation marks on it, usually in metres, centimetres and millimetres. Some measures are also marked in inches or other units. The tape measure has a mechanism to lock the tape at a certain length. This allows the tape to be kept extended in the position where you have placed it. The tape measure is usually housed in a durable case that allows the tape to be easily wound back into the case after use. At the beginning of the tape there is usually a special peg used to attach it to the edge or end of the object you are measuring. This allows for more stable measurement. The thickness of the tape is 0.14 mm. This is very important, as it reduces bending of the tape and thus extends the life of the meter
