DIY coffee table from recycled wood

What if you could create your own coffee table while recycling wooden scraps? Using recycled wood to make furniture is not only environmentally friendly, but it also allows you to create a unique and functional piece for your home. In this guide, we will show you how to make a beautiful coffee table from recycled wood with simple hand tools available in the POPAR tools collection!
Why make a coffee table from recycled wood?
Recycling wood is not only beneficial for the environment, but it also provides a great opportunity to create a unique piece of furniture. Wooden scraps, such as leftover wood from pellets, old wooden boxes, or other waste materials, are often easily discarded, but you can use them to create functional and aesthetic products. Such a coffee table adds a rustic and natural look to your home, and you will create something entirely customized to your needs at a much lower cost.
How much does a coffee table cost in stores?
Coffee tables in stores can be quite expensive, depending on the materials and design. Prices typically range from 100 to 500 euros, with more expensive options being made from solid wood or featuring modern designs. However, if you opt for a DIY approach, you can save a lot, especially if you already have wooden scraps that would otherwise end up in the trash.
How to get rid of scrap wood?
If you have wooden scraps at home, such as leftover wood from pellets or old wooden boxes, this can be a great resource for making furniture. Instead of throwing them away, you can recycle them and create something useful. If you have a lot of scrap wood that you can’t use, you can give it away to local craftsmen or sell it, as many are happy to accept such materials.
Materials:
- Recycled wooden planks
- POPAR saw
- POPAR drill
- POPAR screwdriver
- Sanding paper
- POPAR measuring tape
- POPAR carpenter's square
- POPAR caster wheels
Steps
- Measuring and cutting the wood:
Use the measuring tape to mark the length and width of your wooden planks. Then, carefully cut the planks to the desired size using the POPAR saw. - Sanding
Use sanding paper to smooth rough edges and surfaces to achieve a smooth and neat finish. - Assembly
First, arrange the planks together to form a square or rectangular top. Use the carpenter’s square from POPAR to ensure the corners are right-angled. Mark and drill holes, then secure the planks with screws using the POPAR screwdriver. - Attaching the caster wheels
Flip the assembled coffee table upside down. Attach the POPAR caster wheels to the outer corners of the table for easy mobility. This makes the coffee table more functional and adaptable, while also protecting your floors from damage when moving the furniture. - Finishing touch
For extra protection, you can stain or varnish the wood. This will increase the wood's resistance to moisture and wear, as well as enhance its appearance.
